Hey Fashionistas,
Day 2 Part 2
We arrived in Bella Italia! Who thought we are back to soon to eat pizza again? Just about 5 months ago we visited Milan by accident and you can read all about it in my What to see in Milan post.
This time we visited Trieste, a port city right behind the border. The streets here are very narrow and my GPS led me through streets I don’t want to drive through again. Motorcycles everywhere and a whole lot of one-way streets stressed me out! Luckily we found parking at the port which I would recommend to everyone who wants to visit Trieste with a car. Park your car at the port not only are these car spaces bigger but all the main attractions can be reached by foot from here.
Molo Audace
This is where we parked our car. From here you can not only admire the beautiful sunset but also take pictures of the city skyline.
Piazza Unita d’Italia
Piazza Unita d’italia is the main and most beautiful squares Trieste has to offer. According to Wikipedia it is often said to be Europe's largest square located next to the sea. It’s the most famous sight in the city center and from here you can take pictures of the Townhall.
Teatro Romano
This roman amphitheater is just a short walk from the main square.
Basilica Cattedrale di San Giusto Martire
This cathedral is the main church of Trieste. It’s free to visit and also offers a small free museum on the side. From the Roman Teatro, you can walk a few stairs up and take a few uphill roads to reach the Cathedral. From here you can also see the ocean.
Castle of San Giusto
This castle is located next to the Basilica Cattedrale di San Giusto Martire. It cost $3 per person to see the castle from the inside but we didn’t have enough time to visit.
Stock Exchange
We stumbled upon this building by accident. From the Castle, we were on our way to see the Canale Grande and find something to eat. The stock exchange building in Trieste looks beautiful and is located on a shopping street with shops and restaurants.
From here you can take the best pictures of the Canale Grande and the Serbian Orthodox Church Saint Spyridon Church. Here you find restaurants and cafes.
Canale Grande
When you google Trieste this is the main image that shows. When you walk through Trieste you feel a little bit like you went to Venice.
Where to eat?
Al Barattolo You can’t come to Italy and not indulge in pizza and pasta. We were looking around for an authentic-looking restaurant and found Al Barattolo. The food was amazing! We had the buffalo tomato salad as a starter and Quattro formaggi and prosciutto with mushroom pizza. I also ordered a white wine. For dessert, we shared a tiramisu.
The food is extremely affordable and extremely delicious. Don’t skip on dessert their tiramisu is amazing! I don’t know what it is but tiramisu only tastes good when eating this dessert at an Italian restaurant in Italy. The Italians know best how to make tiramisu a creamy perfection!
