Day 2:
We woke up early head to Slovenia. The day before we already drove to Klagenfurt which is right before the border to cut off some driving time.
Slovenia is, in my opinion, an underrated country but I am going to list the must-see things in Slovenia.
Lake Bled:
The number one thing you have to do in Slovenia is visiting Lake Bled. I mean for real, you can’t visit Slovenia and not visit Lake Bled. This gorgeous lake looks stunning during fall. The lake has a small island in the middle with a church on it.
We started our hike at the Bled Castle. This starting point offers free parking and an amazing view of the Lake. From there you can take the stairs to reach the water.
During summer you can swim in the lake and rent boats to discover the lake.
Postonja Cave:
Slovenia has a lot of caves to offer whereas the Postonja Cave and Sckocan Cave are the most known. Before we headed to Slovenia we thought about what cave to visit. I did a quick Google search with no success. Both caves look stunning but here’s the cave that I recommend visiting if you don’t have enough time for both.
Skocan cave belongs to the UNESCO World heritage. It’s less touristic and less advertised. The website has almost no information about opening hours and tour prices.
The biggest difference between these two caves is that in Postonja cave you can take as many pictures as you want and in Skocan cave that is not allowed.
In the end, I am glad we choose Postonja Cave because it’s so beautiful. It looks straight out of a Disney movie and all these images here don’t do justice. I would recommend visiting Postonja Cave and if you have more time you can get a combo ticket that includes entrance to the Predjama castle, aquarium and of course the cave.
After we visited this cave we tried driving to Skocan cave to see if they still had a tour available but we arrived 15 minutes too late to catch the last tour.
Predjama Castle:
Only a 20-minute drive from Postonja cave you’ll reach the Predjama castle. During summer the Postonja cave offers shuttle services that take you up to the castle because parking is very limited.
The castle is a must-see even if you just come to admire the building without actually taking a tour. The castle is built inside the mountain and looks so pretty! Since our schedule was so packed we didn’t have the time to visit the castle from the inside.
Our next stop is Trieste in Italy. The port city is only 30 minutes away from the Skocan cave and since we didn’t catch the last tour (luckily) we drove to Bella Italia! In my next blog post, I am going to tell you why Trieste is worth the visit.
Thanks for stopping by!
